This downstairs room is perfect for catching the morning sun and relaxing while reading a book; an important activity to Marianne as she served many years as the school librarian. The room is decorated with botanical prints which honor another interest for her – her garden. It is furnished with a queen size bed, TV and has a unique shower and small bathtub.

The Banker Room
T.S. Cavins was not the only banker in the family. His daughter, Myrtle, married Bert Clay Wooldridge who was also president of the bank 1925-1968. His son Bert Cavins Wooldridge was president from 1968 – 1979, then Marianne Wooldridge (wife of Bert Cavins Wooldridge) became president form 1979-1982. This room has a refined, masculine elegance featuring a queen size bed, TV, original fireplace and added bathroom. It is a favorite among guests.

The Palace Room
This room was named after the 1st hotel in Claude. The Palace Hotel was built in 1890 and housed the unchartered bank in the corner room. This room is furnished with a king size bed, sitting area, antique dresser, TV and an original fireplace. The connecting bathroom has a bath shower combination that has been updated but still mixes the unique 1960 blue porcelain tub, sink and commode.

If you love being in the spotlight, then this is the room for you. An actual spotlight helps to honor Marianna Wooldridge’s love for the Gem Theatre and the museum next door of which she was an avid supporter. The Gem Theatre is located in downtown Claude and hosts many events to this day. Maybe you can catch a play, show or performance while you stay at the CW. The bathroom has been updated with a walk in shower, queen size bed and TV.

This room is inspired by Marianne Wooldridge and her love for education. Marianne taught in the Claude schools for many years. She was a beloved teacher and helped shape the lives of many students. The room has 2 twin beds, a TV and plenty of books and games to enjoy. Its bathroom features a claw foot tub and vintage vanity. ( Shear with The Gem Theatre) It can also connect to the Gem Theatre Room for that family that needs to be close.

Located in the quaint town of Claude
Built In 1907
Tolman S. Canvis was a civic leader and entrepreneur in Claude from 1889-1925. T.S. married Fanny Clark on May 13, 1886. On moving to Claude in 1889, he established a mercantile and joined the company that built the Palace Hotel, the first hotel in Claude. There, he provided a safe keeping for settlers’ savings. Consequently in 1904, Cavins chartered the First National Bank of Claude, followed by another business, the Cavins Lumber Company. In 1907, T.S. and Fanny built their beautiful home. The CW house would remain in the Cavins-Wooldridge family for 114 years.
Upon the death of Fanny in 1948, the house sat empty for 13 years. T.S. and Fanny’s grandson, Bert Cavins Wooldridge and wife, Marianne, renovated the house in 1960, keeping the original half inch mosaic tile floors on the first floor. They moved into the house in 1961 and made it their home. Their love of art is still on display through throughout the house. The house remained in the family until Marianne’s death in 2021

The well-manicured lawn and fenced backyard with a covered patio make for a lovely place to watch the sun set.

Nearby, guests can visit the historic Goodnight House, Merus Adventure Park as well as the Gem Theatre. In the summer time, guests can travel 20 minutes to Clarendon’s Sandel Drive-In Theatre to enjoy delicious food and a double feature movie. The Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a short drive away where you can enjoy majestic views all year round. TEXAS the Outdoor Musical runs from May into August each year.
The city of Amarillo is only 25 miles west and has several things for guests to do: Historic Route 66, Hodgetown Stadium, Antique Shops on 6th St., Cadillac Ranch, Quarter Horse Museum, and tons of shopping and restaurants.
